§01 · overview
Overview.
Makerland is an independent, solo-run homelab and blog. These Terms of Service govern your use of the public Makerland website, and, where applicable, your use of internal lab systems as a "partner" — someone who has been given a login to access services on the Makerland network.
These terms are intentionally plain: this is a personal project, not a commercial product, and it’s run by one person in their spare time. By using the site or holding a partner account, you agree to the terms below.
§02 · acceptance
Acceptance of terms.
By visiting or using makerland.xyz, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service and by the Privacy Policy, which is incorporated into these terms by reference. If you don’t agree with these terms, please don’t use the site.
If you’ve been given a partner login to access internal lab systems, your continued use of that account is additional agreement to these terms, including the sections specific to partner access below.
These terms may apply to anyone using the site, regardless of age, but the site is not directed at children and is not designed to collect information from anyone known to be under 13.
§03 · use
Use of the site.
You agree to use Makerland only for lawful purposes. You won’t attempt to disrupt, overload, or gain unauthorized access to the site, the newsletter system, or any system on the Makerland network, including through scraping, scanning, probing, or attempting to bypass Cloudflare’s security protections.
If you sign up for the newsletter, you agree to provide a working email address and not to use the signup to spam, abuse, or harass. You can unsubscribe at any time.
Partner accounts are provided at Makerland’s sole discretion for the purpose of accessing specific lab systems and services (such as Cloudflare One, Grafana, file shares, Makerland email, configuration management systems, compute resources, or site WiFi). Partners agree to use those systems only for their intended purpose, to keep their login credentials secure, and not to attempt to access systems or data they haven’t been given permission to use. Makerland may monitor and log activity on these systems, as described in the Privacy Policy, to maintain security.
Makerland may suspend or terminate a partner’s access to any or all lab systems at any time, with or without cause or notice, since this is privately operated infrastructure rather than a public service.
§04 · content
Content & licensing.
All blog posts, writing, images, and other original content published on Makerland are the property of Makerland’s operator and are protected by copyright. All rights are reserved — nothing on this site may be copied, republished, redistributed, or used to train a model without prior written permission, except for ordinary use such as reading the site, sharing a link, or quoting a brief excerpt with attribution as permitted under fair use.
The blog exists to share information and spark ideas, so you’re welcome to borrow and adapt the underlying concepts, techniques, and configuration snippets described in a post for your own projects. That freedom applies to the ideas and code shown, not to the writing itself — the prose of a post may not be copied, republished, or reproduced wholesale without permission, even if you’re using the concepts it describes.
Any code, configuration, or projects explicitly published under a separate open-source license (for example, in a linked GitHub repository) are governed by the license stated in that repository, not by this section.
If you submit anything to Makerland — for example, a comment, a message, or a file shared through a partner system — you’re responsible for making sure you have the right to share it, and you agree not to submit anything unlawful, infringing, or harmful.
§05 · disclaimers
Disclaimers.
Makerland is a personal homelab project, provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or non-infringement.
Because Makerland runs on self-managed, on-premises infrastructure as a hobby project, uptime, availability, and data durability are not guaranteed. Services may go down, be reconfigured, or be discontinued at any time, including for partner systems like file shares, email, or dashboards.
Content on the blog reflects personal opinions, experiments, and projects, and is provided for informational and entertainment purposes only. It shouldn’t be relied on as professional, security, or technical advice for your own systems without independent verification.
§06 · liability
Limitation of liability.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Makerland’s operator will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of data, access, or business, arising out of or related to your use of the site or any partner systems, even if advised of the possibility of such damages.
This includes, without limitation, damages resulting from service interruptions, data loss on self-hosted or on-premises systems, security incidents, or actions taken by third-party providers (such as Cloudflare or Microsoft) that Makerland relies on.
Nothing in these terms is intended to limit liability where it cannot be limited under applicable law.
§07 · changes
Changes to these terms.
These terms may be updated from time to time as the site and lab evolve. The "last updated" date at the top of this page will reflect the most recent revision. Continued use of the site or a partner account after changes are posted means you accept the updated terms.
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Arizona, without regard to conflict-of-law principles, regardless of where you access the site from.
